Join Alice for a 2 hour deep dive into the fundamentals of yoga. This workshop will be perfect if you’re just starting out on your yoga journey or if you would like a deeper understanding. We will talk through postural alignment, basic pranayama (breathing practices), as well as an introduction to meditation and yoga philosophy and how you can begin to incorporate yoga into your everyday life.
The workshop will cover:
Asana (posture) – we’ll break down some key postures and transitions that you’re likely to find in a vinyasa practice e.g. downward dog, chaturanga, sun salutations, so that you feel more confident with alignment and modifications that work best for your unique body. There will also be an exploration of how props can be used to deepen the practice, as well as how they can be used in savasana to aid relaxation.
Pranayama (breathing practice) – learn the basic anatomy and physiology of breathing, and how breathing can affect your nervous system. Learn how to achieve a full ‘yogic breath’ (diaphragmatic breath), as well as other pranayama techniques such as ujjayi and nadi shodhana pranayama, which you’ll often find in a yoga classes.
Meditation (dharana & dhyana) – learn how to develop your focus and concentration in order to cultivate a deep meditative mental state. We’ll explore different approaches to meditation (such as bringing awareness to breath, sound, physical sensation) as well as exploring different options to find comfort whilst sitting.
Yoga philosophy – throughout the workshop you’ll be introduced to different yogic terms and what they mean, as well as a brief overview of the ‘8-limbs’ of yoga, so that you leave with a broader understanding of yoga beyond the physical practice.
